Different Ways to Fish While on Vacation

While many people know that Destin is the world’s luckiest fishing village, some are unaware of the variety of fishing available on the Emerald Coast. We’re sharing a few of the different ways you can experience all of the fishing options our region has to offer.

Deep Sea Fishing
If a full day on the water, catching large fish with experienced charter captains sounds like fun to you, it sounds like you are up for a deep sea fishing excursion. Offshore excursions typically travel 20-30 miles into the Gulf of Mexico where guests will use heavy duty equipment with large bait to attract a variety of large fish including tuna and snapper.

Inshore Fishing
Inshore fishing in our area explores our local waterways including the Choctawhatchee Bay. This kind of fishing is usually accompanied by calmer waters and smaller fish than you will experience with a deep sea fishing excursion.

Pier & Beach Fishing
The most budget-friendly way to fish along the Emerald Coast is at public beaches or piers. Because of the inexpensive nature of pier and beach fishing, it tends to be a more crowded area to fish. If you choose to fish on a pier or the beach, always be aware of swimmers and others surrounding you.

Kayak & Paddleboard Fishing
If you want to experience fishing from a different view, we suggest taking your pole and bait on a kayak or paddleboard. Both watercrafts are available for purchase or rent at multiple locations along the Emerald Coast. Fishing this way allows you to experience the waterways on your own, allowing for a more relaxed, quiet adventure on the water.

Fly Fishing
Perhaps the least known way to fish on the Emerald Coast, fly fishing is a fun way to explore the region’s water on your vacation. If you are interested in trying this out on your next beach trip, check out our blog that covers tips for fly fishing on the Emerald Coast.

Keep in mind, it’s important to have the proper licenses and to know what’s in season. If you are fishing with our local charter captains, they will help you with this! With the country’s largest fishing fleet, you are sure to find a vessel that will assist you in having a great day on the water.

We hope you take advantage of the variety of fishing opportunities throughout our region when you visit the world’s luckiest fishing village!
