1st Annual Pelican Plunge
We have to admit that few things are as entertaining as watching grown men dive into icy water with expressions of “why did I do this?!” on their faces. Even flipping through TV channels, we probably find ourselves pausing to watch these bold, daring…crazy?... people take the plunge. Unfortunately, this is something that locals of the Emerald Coast rarely get to see in person because well our waters aren’t that cold (average winter water temperatures range from 61-68 degrees Fahrenheit). That does not lessen our excitement about the 1st Annual Pelican Plunge at The Boardwalk of Okaloosa Island which will take place January 1, 2017 from 10:30 AM - 2:00 PM. Considering that bathwater hovers around 100 degrees Fahrenheit- these guys and gals are still gonna be freezin’!
It will be a very positive experience however because they’ll be freezin’ for a reason- each of the participants’ entry fee benefits the Emerald Coast Foundation who works with children's charities such as ARC of the Emerald Coast, All Sports Association, Children in Crisis, and the Eleanor Johnson Youth Center to fund their causes. Also exciting is the fact that the first 100 plungers get a long-sleeved commemorative shirt and everyone- spectators included can celebrate with $3 Bloody Mary’s and $2 Mimosas.
